THEN & NOW: VIEWS OF BRIGG MEWS IN THE NEWS

As a prominent Brigg town centre building is in the public spotlight at present for two reasons, now seems a good time to dip into our picture archive to show how it used to look.
New shop fronts are being installed at Riverside Mews, close to the County Bridge, and the building has been placed on the property market, to be sold by auction.
Decades ago the Farmers' Company was based here, dealing in agricultural products. Barges served it from the Old River Ancholme below, with hoists employed to shift cargo.
Chatterton’s original corn and cake mill had been taken over by the Farmers’ Company in 1907. Today the building houses flats/apartments.
Here are views from the late 19th or very early 20th century and the 1970s - two decades before the inner relief road re-routed through traffic away from the County Bridge.
Only emergency service vehicles should be crossing the bridge in 2020. However, some drivers ignore the warning signs and continue to do so as a short cut between Bridge Street and the Market Place.
