BRIGG POPPY 10K & MILITARY CHALLENGE 2020 'VIRTUALLY' GOES AHEAD

In normal times, without the Coronavirus emergency, Brigg people would be crowding the town centre today (Sunday, October 25) to watch and support one of the town's major annual events - the Brigg Poppy 10K & Military Challenge running race, helping the Royal British Legion.
Although the late morning crowd-pleaser cannot take its usual form this year due to virus-related restrictions, it IS GOING AHEAD but in an amended 'virtual' format.
The organiser, Curly's Athletes Ltd, which runs many events, tells Brigg Blog: "We’ve been very busy moving all our real events to virtual ones. So the plan for 2020 is the run is been held ‘virtually’. This means runners will be completing the 10k and 10k military challenge from this weekend up until November 2nd. They then send us their results and we send out their medals, etc. The main event day is still the 25th when we have the most social media activity going on.
"People will mainly be doing it from where they live; some may meet up in small groups from their local running clubs (sticking to the rule of six, etc) but that’s all out of our control.
"We’re sure some locals will go on the course but we won’t be encouraging this. We will also be doing our run over in Doncaster as we’re now in Tier 3."
Curly's has provided this online link to an information pack giving further details. https://curlysathletes.co.uk/brigg-10k-poppy-race#075cbf75-bedc-494e-8eef-994bc5a4dd08
It adds: "People can still join us in the event, support the Royal British Legion and generally have a good time running around until the 1st of November."
The Military Challenge section involves competitors carrying weighted back-packs as they run the course.
The Royal British Legion benefits from the Brigg event through sponsorship.
