A new school is proposed for an existing building in Brigg - close to the town centre.
Planning permission is being sought to change the use of a building from a clinic to a special needs school - the location being Fircroft, 3 Wrawby Road, which is between Health Place and Beldon House - not far from the Monument roundabout.
North Lincolnshire Council is now considering the application.
Supporting information supplied to the local authority explains these premises were granted approval for use as a clinic in October 2011 and operated successfully until October 2019.
"The owners have been looking for a new use and after much contact with local authorities and market research they have decided that the community is in need of special needs schooling for children from 7 to 16 years old," the submission says.
"The proposed site lies just within the conservation area but is neither a listed building nor a building of townscape merit as identified within the Brigg Conservation Area Appraisal.
"Pupils will gain a range of transferable skills, including English, Maths, ICT & communication. As well as gaining formal qualifications, pupils will develop employability and independence skills needed to enter the workplace or mainstream further education."
The council has been told that, at full capacity, the school will teach a maximum of 18 pupils and provide three full time & three part-time jobs.
The school is earmarked to open Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm, but will be closed at weekends and on bank holidays.
