A fan of train travel made a cross-country journey of more than 90 miles from Staffordshire to Barnetby on Saturday (October 10) intending to ride the Saturday-only passenger service along the Brigg line to Sheffield. However, the train he wanted did not run because the operating company had a shortage of drivers. Thankfully, after some helpful advice had been offered by the The Independent Brigg Line Rail Group, he still managed to visit Brigg and Kirton Lindsey stations and take pictures (seen here).

A rail enthusiast called Paul, travelling from Uttoxeter, was not put off by the cancellation of the 11.14 Cleethorpes to Sheffield Midland service via the Brigg Line. A replacement coach service was provided by the train operator.
After contacting the Independent Brigg Line Rail Group on Twitter, they were able to give him directions on where to catch the replacement bus service from Barnetby station where his rail journey had come to a sad end.
After successfully being picked up, the rail enthusiast got chatting to the coach driver. Paul explained that he was coming down the Brigg Line after he had seen the online promotions about it.
Despite not arriving or departing by train, he still got a look. The coach driver kindly let Paul take a few pictures of the stations at Brigg and Kirton Lindsey before heading off to Retford where the coach terminated. From there Paul caught a service to Sheffield Midland from Retford low-level to then return home.
Despite the setback, the enthusiast confirmed to the Independent Brigg Line Rail Group he will be coming back on the line in the future and especially to visit the market town of Brigg, thanks to the online guide produced by Brigg Blog.

When he returns to ride the Brigg Line we trust his visit will be gremlin-free and Paul will enjoy his day out in our town, visiting shops and other businesses. We suggest he might like to come for the farmers' market, held on the fourth Saturday of the month (other than December).
On Saturday (October 10) there should have been three trains in each direction calling at Brigg and Kirton Lindsey, but we are informed that only the 'middle service' ran - the 11.37am Sheffield to Cleethorpes via Brigg (arriving here at 13:00) and the 1511 Cleethorpes to Sheffield via Brigg (1543 at our station). Buses substituted for the early morning and evening trains.
