People living in the Brigg area who are thinking about booking places on a train excursion hauled by a preserved steam locomotive should not delay, as we expect there will be plenty of eager passengers signing up.
This is a rare opportunity for a steam ride from our area, as British Railways withdrew its last locally-based locos back in 1966.
Named The Tynesider, the special train will run from Cleethorpes and Grimsby up to Newcastle on Saturday, June 12, 2021 - stopping to pick up passengers in Barnetby (8am) and Scunthorpe (8.20). It is being organised by the Kings Lynn-based Railway Touring Company - a specialist in the field of nostalgic day trips and train-related holidays abroad.
The steam loco which will power the train through North Lincolnshire has yet to be announced, but "some fast running" will feature. The route will be via York along the east coast mainline.
