BRIGG FOOTBALLERS TAKE A POINT AT THE REC GROUND AS BARNETBY ENJOY SIX-GOAL THRILLER

Briggensians finally opened their 2020/21 league season at Brigg Recreation Ground yesterday (Saturday, October 17) after the competition had been delayed for some weeks.
In EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District League Division Two they drew 1-1 against Crowle Colts Development, the local side's goal coming from Jacque Campling.
In the same section, Barnetby United Reserves hosted Scotter United Reserves at Silver Street and won 5-0 with goals from Shaun Clark (2), Adam McGuire, Nathan Plaskitt and Joe Stothard.
This was the Reserves' second league game and they have taken maximum points from both to top the table on goal difference.
In Division One, Barnetby's first teamers drew 3-3 away to Scunthorpe side Brumby. Match report below and pictures courtesy of Barnetby's Lee Fielden...

HONOURS EVEN IN 6-GOAL THRILLER

Barnetby United and Brumby FC fought out a roller coaster of 6-goal draw at the Co-op ground in the opening league game of the 2020-21 season.
Brumby settled into the game quicker and neat play up the hill saw Carl Grix sweep the ball past Dale Coy on 5 minutes. This kicked Barnetby into life and almost immediately Cameron Hill forced home the ball following a defensive lapse.
14 minutes in and a long ball from the back by Merrick found the on-running Parker and he planted his header superbly into the net to put the Railwaymen 2-1 up.
Hill, Goodman and Parker spurned opportunities to put Barnetby further ahead and 2-1 at half time with a 2nd half defending up the hill meant hard work was needed.
Down the slope Brumby put the Barnetby backline under increasing pressure; they also defended superbly as Barnetby broke out with Forrest and Goodman again missing chances.
Hill was lost to injury and Bradley and Greaves replaced by Jordan and Hartley but with 25 minutes to go Brumby were level from a corner.
They went into the lead for a 2nd time when a Merrick header from a long throw found its way into his own net.
Deep into added time, Goodman broke free in the Brumby box and rolled the ball home off the far upright to grab his side a point and a share of the spoils.
