POSITIVE NEWS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE DRIVERS IN BRIGG

An electric vehicle having its battery topped up at a charging point in the Angel car park in Brigg (March 2022)

There's some positive news for 'green' electric vehicle drivers who live in, or visit, the Brigg area.
North Lincolnshire Council is looking to introduce more local charging points.
Meanwhile, how many owners of these cars realise batteries can be topped up with 'juice' on a well-used municipal car park in Brigg town centre?
Although it's some time since the council pioneered vehicle charging points in the district, it was only recently that Brigg Blog noticed (and photographed - see above) a 'green' vehicle being charged in the car park behind the Angel building.
This 'first' prompted us to inquire about useage of these chargers and also to flag up the existence of these topping up points.
Electric cars (EVs) are becoming increasing popular with motorists.
There is a meter-paying system in place behind the Angel and signs indicate it costs £1 per hour to top up.
A spokesperson for the local authority told us this week: "North Lincolnshire Council is committed to the environmental agenda and our pledge is to be carbon neutral by 2030. The charging points in the Angel car park in Brigg are available to members of the public, and we are currently working with suppliers to install more charging points across the area."
The council does not keep a note of how many power charges these Angel car park 'points' give out, but indicates that the meters are emptied regularly.
In March 2016 we reported that the authority had invested in two electric vans for use by its Community Wardens and installed an electric charging point in the car park behind Scunthorpe Market to help reduce the authority's carbon footprint.
This was the first public 24-hour charging point in North Lincolnshire which allowed the public to charge their electric vehicles. Other points soon followed in Brigg's Angel car park.
Tesco installed free electric vehicle charging points adjoining its Brigg store two years ago, to be used by shoppers.

Perhaps North Lincolnshire Council will now consider reviewing its charging policy, in the light of what the retail giant has done, and decide to make topping up free at the Angel.
To its credit, the council continues to offer a free car parking concession in Brigg for all types of privately-owned vehicles.
So we wonder if there is now a case for waiving the topping up fee for electric cars.
With the warmer months of the year ahead, many people from other areas will be coming to Brigg to visit shops, browse market stalls and take a look at what our town has to offer, including the Heritage Centre.
To assist visitors, new information boards were introduced by Brigg Town Council a few weeks ago on the main car parks off Old Courts Road and to the rear of the Angel building.
A pioneering 'green' vehicle-related project currently under consideration involves introducing power lines along the local M180 to supply a new breed of lorries fitted with pantograph pick-ups.
