BRIGG TOWN HAVE IMPORTANT GAMES TODAY AND TOMORROW IN BID FOR PROMOTION

Stockport County football fans visiting Brigg Town Football Club on their way to watch the match against Grimsby Town on Good Friday 2022

Brigg Town Football Club is having an egg-citing Easter at the EC Surfacing Stadium.
Yesterday (Friday, April 15) witnessed football fans from the other side of the Pennines visiting our local ground, while today and tomorrow will see different Town teams in action as they continue to push for promotion.

Brigg's first teamers will be in Toolstation Northern Counties East Division One promotion play-off semi-final action against Harrogate Railway Athletic today at the former Hawthorns venue, kicking off at 3pm. The clubhouse bar and Pip's Kitchen will be open for refreshments.
One of the Zebras' biggest home crowds of the season is anticipated.
Brigg Town Veterans, who lead Hull & District League Division Four, have a home fixture tomorrow (Sunday) kicking off at 2pm.
Admission to watch the play-off semi-final against Harrogate costs £5 (adults) and £3 (concessions) with no charge for under 18s.
Spectators are free to watch Easter Sunday's Veterans' fixture against Malt Shovel Selby.
The licensed bar enjoyed a boost in takings yesterday when three bus-loads of Stockport County supporters turned off Wrawby Road and called in for refreshments during a stop-off on the way to watch their team play an afternoon fixture against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park in the Vanarama National League.
Club official Jim Huxford kindly sent Brigg Blog the image (seen above) showing some supporters of the Hatters during their stop off at the EC Surfacing Stadium. There were dozens more of them inside the clubhouse.
He told Brigg Blog: "They were a great bunch."
Stockport lead the Vanarama competition. However, seventh-placed Grimsby turned the tables on their visitors to win 2-1 and therefore remain on track for the play-offs which will follow the regular season.
Both these clubs are bidding to win back places in the Football League where they were members for many years.
Sadly, a 3-0 defeat at Leyton Orient yesterday means Scunthorpe United are already relegated to the Vanarama competition after spending 72 successive seasons in the Football League.
Some of the Iron's campaigns since gaining Football League status in 1950 have been spent in the second tier (immediately below what's now the Premiership). Brigg's Barry Horstead (late 1950s and early 1960s) and Matt Sparrow (much later) were regulars for Scunthorpe at this level. Defender Barry played for Brigg Town either side of his lengthy spell with the Iron at the Old Show Ground.
Located near the M180, A15 and A18 and having a range of licensed premises, our town has long been a popular refreshment stop for football fans from afar travelling to watch their teams in action at Grimsby, Scunthorpe United, Lincoln City and Hull City.
Brigg Blog, over the years, has reported an influx of spectators wearing the team colours of Barnsley, Aston Villa, Port Vale, Leeds United, Bradford City, Sunderland and (very recently) Mansfield Town.
