BRIGG BLOG'S EASTER SATURDAY LOCAL FOOTBALL & CRICKET ROUND-UP

While Brigg Town were involved in their play-off semi-final against Harrogate Railway Athletic yesterday, one of our local sides was in action in the EC Surfacing Scunthorpe & District Football League.
Barnetby United Reserves hosted Limestone Rangers Reserves at Silver Street and won 4-3, helped by two goals apiece from Brendan O’Callaghan and Terry Carolan.
This game was in Division Two in which Barnetby occupy fifth place (mid-table).
Brigg Town Development were beaten 6-0 by Wyberton yesterday in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League Premier.
Just a reminder... table-topping Brigg Town Veterans have a Hull & District League home game today (Sunday) kicking off at 2pm at the EC Surfacing Stadium.
Easter Saturday saw the start of the new Lincolnshire County Cricket League season, although only one of our local sides took to the field.
Broughton 2nds entertained Outcasts 2nds in Division Three West and won by six wickets, securing 17 points.
In sunny conditions the visitors from the Isle of Axholme used up all their permitted 45 overs to total 162 for nine - Jack Johnstone being Broughton's most successful bowler in terms of wickets, taking three at a cost of 47 runs.
However, the vastly experienced Paul Clark (pictured above) also took the eye with some very tight bowling. Seven of his permitted nine overs were maidens (no runs being scored from the bat) and he finished with two for seven!
Josh Smith (who scored 60) and Nick Crawford (with 44) then played major roles as Broughton secured victory with 2.1 overs to spare.
