Championship-chasing Brigg Town Football Club continued their efforts to secure the Hull & District Veterans League Division Four championship with a home win yesterday (Saturday, April 17).
Brigg Vets defeated Yorkshire side Malt Shovel Selby 1-0 at the EC Surfacing Stadium (Hawthorns).
Town currently enjoy a decisive lead over second-placed Cottingham Rangers who have played fewer fixtures.
Also still within striking distance are third-in-the-table Springhead Highway (Hull) who have five games in hand on Brigg but will need to win their all to mount a challenge.
Brigg have won 13 of their 16 league fixtures so far, with two draws and only one defeat.
Teams are scheduled to play 18 games in total, and the programme will continue well into May for some of the sides.
The popular Hull & District League, founded in 2001, has five divisions.
The vast majority of the teams are drawn from the North Bank/Yorkshire, but Scunthorpe club Appleby-Frodingham competes in the top flight.
