A new zebra crossing is on its way in Brigg to assist road safety and benefit pedestrians.
It will be located on the town's busiest road - the A18 - and will be installed by the end of this year or early in 2022.
The zebra crossing will be on Ancholme Way where only traffic islands are currently available.
North Lincolnshire Council, as the local highway authority, will provide the new facility.
The intended installation of this new zebra crossing was revealed during a meeting of Brigg Town Council some months ago in a verbal report from the unitary authority's Brigg & Wolds Ward representatives, Coun Rob Waltham and Couns Carl and Nigel Sherwood.
During Brigg Town Council's latest (October) meeting in the Buttercross, Coun Waltham gave a welcome update.
He outlined a programme of works to be undertaken "before Christmas" or in January.
Brigg Blog has posted various reports over a number of months about new housing developments being on the way to the northern side of Bridge Street, on the former Falcon Cycles and Corah factory sites (houses and apartments). These developments will increase the number of pedestrians needing to get to and from the town centre by crossing the A18.
This is also the case for residents of the well-established Waters Edge housing estate near the border between Broughton parish and Brigg.
The new zebra crossing will also benefit many pupils of Sir John Nelthorpe School who walk to and from the 'Upper' premises on Grammar School Road, as well as some shoppers who have to cross the A18 to access the Lidl store, on Atherton Way.
In addition to assisting road safety, the new zebra will also reduce pedestrians' waiting time to get across the very busy A18.
Currently, lengthy waits are frequent at the traffic islands until a brief gap in approaching traffic appears.
