Barclays has announced the forthcoming closure of its Brigg branch. This will then leave the town will only one functioning bank people can visit in person - Lloyds, on Wrawby Street.
The Market Place branch of Barclays is to close for good at noon on January 21, 2022.

Barclays says: "Here are the main reasons why the Brigg branch is closing:
"The number of counter transactions has gone down in the two years to March 2020, and additionally 83% of our branch customers also use other ways to do their banking such as online and by telephone.
"Customers using other ways to do their banking has increased by 11% since 2015.
"In the past 12 months, 41% of this branch's customers have been using nearby branches.
"We’ve identified that only 68 customers use this branch exclusively for their banking."

Brigg Blog contacted Barclays HQ this morning (Friday) offering an opportunity for further comment. It appears letters have been sent in advance to local customers regarding the closure of the town's branch.
12.23pm UPDATE: A Barclays spokesperson said: “The decision to close a branch is never an easy one; however, customers are increasingly using alternatives to branches to do their banking. As a result, we are seeing a sustained fall in branch visits across the UK.
“This is reflected at the Brigg branch where over four fifths (83 per cent) of our customers at the branch are also using different ways to bank.
“We will work with our customers and provide alternative options to ensure they can continue to manage their money and receive financial expertise when required.”
