HAPPY DAYS: HISTORIC BRIGG PUB WILL BE OPENING LONGER

Many people in Brigg will be Glad to hear that an historic pub in the town centre will be open for more hours from Monday (October 4) and also offering 'Happy Days' for customers who call late in the morning, through the afternoon and into the early evening.
The Dying Gladiator, on Bigby Street, will now be trading from 10am until late, seven days a week.
It suggests that locals should forget about an old fashioned Happy Hour; instead it is offering Happy Days, with low prices from 10am through to 6pm.
Announcing details through a social media post, the Glad added a picture showing its real fire alight near the bar, extending a warm welcome in early autumn... with chilly winter days and nights to come.
The pub has a traditional dartboard and a free-to-use pool table.
Its disco nights are particularly popular at weekends, with many people taking to the dance floor.
Brigg has the only Dying Gladiator pub in England. An early 19th century owner/landlord/builder visited Italy and the Vatican; sculptures he saw on his grand tour later inspired him to fashion a Gladiator for Brigg.
Dating back to the mid-1700s, the building now housing the pub is thought to have been a farmhouse in its early days.
Today it is in the heart of the Brigg Conservation Area and was afforded grade two listed status back in 1976.
An adjoining archway, now leading through to the beer garden, forms part of the listing, having been given "Gothic treatment."
Our view is the Glad must have come close to making the higher category - grade two* (star), afforded to "particularly important buildings of more than special interest."
