BRIGG MONUMENT WAR MEMORIAL: CALL TO ADD SERVICEMAN'S NAME TO THE ROLL OF HONOUR

A 'Lest We Forget' call has been made for the name of a former Brigg man who was killed on active service 80 years ago to be added to the those already listed and remembered on the Monument war memorial through a Roll of Honour.
Flight Sergeant Stanley Cross was born in the town in 1906, educated in Brigg and enlisted as 'a regular' in the RAF in 1927.
He was killed in action during the Second World War on April 14, 1941, aged 35, while flying a Coastal Command, twin-engined Bristol Beaufighter over the Norwegian Sea. He is recorded as having No Known Grave.
Brigg man Ken Harrison has supplied detailed information to Brigg Town Council which oversees the war war memorial, including the plaques displayed on its base.
Ken considers this to be a strong proposal, Flt Sgt Cross having been born in the town and lived here. He is also not named on another war memorial.
Ken recently sent his submission to the council, which meets monthly.
