Only two football matches involving teams from Brigg Blog's area were played yesterday (Saturday, October 2).
Brigg Town's first teamers were without a scheduled game in ToolStation Northern Counties East Division One, and this was also the case for the Development XI in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League Premier. So there was no on-field action at the EC Surfacing Stadium (Hawthorns).
Brigg-based Briggensians FC were due to host Thurlby Tigers in the second round of the Lincolnshire Junior Cup.
However, we've been advised by the local league that Thurlby have withdrawn from the KO competition, and therefore this tie did not proceed as planned.
Barnetby United were in action in the Lincs Junior Cup yesterday but lost 4-0 away to Epworth Town Colts.
Our thanks go to Barnetby's Lee Fielden for the match report below and for these pictures. Barnetby are in the black & white strip.
There was a home game yesterday for Barnetby United Reserves in Division Two of the EC Surfacing Scunthorpe & District League. Barnetby drew 3-3 with Beckwood Rovers, scorers for the local villagers being Terry Conlan (2) and Greg Brackenbury.
RAILWAYMEN EXIT JUNIOR CUP
Barnetby’s trip to the Isle ended in an all too familiar result as they crashed out of the Lincs FA Junior Cup at Carrside, Epworth.
Epworth Colts, who sit joint top of the Doncaster Rovers Premier Division, won 4-0 to progress to the next round.
They started the brighter and Barnetby again having to make several changes were under pressure in the opening exchanges as long serving Andy’s, Bradley and Dawson at centre half had to call on all of their vast experience.
They held firm and The Railwaymen started to get a foothold in the game, Finnis and O’Callaghan testing the Epworth keeper.
On 33 minutes though Callum Rusling broke the deadlock when he rifled home an unstoppable effort from the edge of the box that left Jackson in goal with no chance.
Barnetby regrouped and looked like going into the break only 1-0 down but for a defensive mix up allowing Ben Carson in to coolly make it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time.
Into the 2nd half and the weather took a turn for the worse, with driving rain lashing down the pitch into the Epworth faces. Jordan and Popple were driving Barnetby forward and chances were still being created though the feeling was beginning to come that it would not be Barnetby’s day.
Carson bagged his 2nd on 78 minutes and another mix up allowed George Algar to notch the 4th.
It was a spirited Barnetby performance and though the 4-0 scoreline was harsh on them Epworth were deserving winners and progress to the next round.
