BRIGG CAN RECYCLE MORE IF THERE ARE CASH INCENTIVES

A social media post read earlier today made us wonder how a UK-wide can recycling scheme which was trialled in Brigg is progressing.
The post explained that, in Germany, 25p is paid to people for every can they recycle.
In September 2018 we were invited down to the Market Place to see a demonstration of a new can recycling scheme, giving small payments (by voucher) for each can deposited. We took along a full dustbin bag along and tested it out in the Market Place, as did other local residents.
We were impressed, especially as payments (however small) give householders a real incentive to recycle.
Since then we've heard nothing further. But today's social media post suggests its time to check up on any progress made.
Three years ago, we wrote: "These machines are popular on continental Europe and this one, we noted,  was pulled by a vehicle with foreign number-plates."
Yesterday (Monday) we took a dustbin bag full of metal cans down to the recycling centre on the Old Courts Road car park.
North Lincolnshire Council, to its credit, had left one of the two bin lids unlocked. So it was a simple job to tip in all the contents without having to feed them two at a time through the circular slots on the side.
We then went to dispose of the used sack and found a large new metal litter bin evident on the edge of the car park, inside which was a wheelie-bin!
