BRIGG RESIDENTS LIVING NEAR SITE OF SUGGESTED NEW PUBLIC BENCH TO BE ASKED FOR THEIR VIEWS

Brigg Town Council was asked to consider, and resolve to site, a new public bench on St Helens Road, but did not agree this course of action at its latest meeting.
Instead, a decision about the seat was deferred until "resident consultation" has been undertaken.
At their latest meeting in the Buttercross, councillors were informed that a request had been received for a seat to be installed midway along St Helens Road, which is a lengthy street, as shown by the pictures here.
It could give people somewhere to rest while walking to and from the town centre or elsewhere.
However, Coun Carl Sherwood recalled that when such a provision had been suggested some years earlier, there had been vociferous objections. Before considering the matter, he suggested residents living near the proposed site should be surveyed for their views.
Coun Rob Waltham said some householders on adjoining Glanford Road should be included in the survey.
Coun Penny Smith, who recalled uproar the last time a bench was suggested on St Helens Road, reminded colleagues that a Brigg bus service to and from the town centre operates in this area.
Brigg Blog thinks it is five years since provision of a bench on St Helens Road was last considered and turned down by the Town Council.
Back then some concern was expressed about people congregating at the bench, which may have resulted in noise.
Following the consultation, this issue is expected to re-appear on the agenda for a future meeting of the council. These sessions are held monthly.
