Considerable interest has been shown in Brigg Blog's recent post suggesting that it's hoped to replace the 2021 Briggenians' dinner/get-together with an online version.
Ex-pupils of Sir John Nelthorpe School, Brigg Grammar and Brigg Girls' High, now living as far away as Australia, have welcomed the new 'virtual talks' initiative.
Since that post the annual Briggensians' Newsletter has been published in PDF format for the benefit of 'old boys' and 'old girls' and emailed to scores of them.
The newsletter confirms that Scunthorpe MP Holly Mumby-Croft, a former pupil of Sir John Nelthorpe School (SJN), has agreed to give a video talk for fellow Briggensians. There will also be an online presentation by school headteacher Rob Biglands.
When it comes to date, time and where to find these speeches, the long-established association says: "We will issue details when both videos are available and the platform decided."
Brigg Blog will pass on this information once details have been confirmed.
The annual dinner and reunion was due to be held in mid-March at Elsham Golf Club but has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus emergency.
The annual newsletter - compiled as ever by David Brittain, the retired SJN headteacher and former Brigg Grammar School physics master - contains much of interest to ex-pupils within its 24 pages.
It's good to see that, Covid restrictions permitting, other traditional reunions and get-togethers are to be held over the coming months:
SUMMER SPORTS: A Friday night in July, date to be confirmed - Youth v Experience - cricket, rounders and netball on the SJN school field, to be followed by a get-together at the Yarborough Hunt pub, Bridge Street, Brigg.
WINTER SPORTS: Football and pub games, December 27, 10.30am.
GOLF: Spring Meeting noon, Sunday, April 18; Past v Present, 4pm, Monday, July 5; Autumn Meeting, noon, Sunday, October 17. Requests to play should be made by emailing dave.harness@ymail.com or call 01652 688005.
Looking further ahead, the association says: "We hope that life will return to something close to normal by Saturday, 12th March 2022 when we would plan for the next dinner."
For those eligible who have yet to join the association, life membership costs £5. Email hcresswell@westrum.co.uk
Helen can also supply information to members about mugs, ties and badges available for sale.
