BRIGG PICTURES & REPORT FROM LAST NIGHT'S PLATINUM JUBILEE BEACON LIGHTING EVENT

Lighting the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacon in Brigg on Thursday, June 2, 2022

Many Brigg people enjoyed watching the lighting of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacon and other features of the communal gathering last night (Thursday, June 2, 2022),
The beacon on the Millennium Green, Elwes Street, was lit at 9.45pm by three of the local Scouts who are planning to visit next year's World Jamboree in the Far East - accompanied by Town Mayor Coun Brian Parker.
People of all ages began gathering on the Green from 8pm - many opting to sample the hot food, cakes and drinks offered by the Scouts in their headquarters adjoining the Green.
Some spectators also watched from Elwes Street, with a number of others gathering near Manley Garden on the other side of the Old River Ancholme.
There was music from the local Ancholme River Jazz Band, followed by Chris Darlington, the Town Crier, reading the Royal Jubilee Proclamation, and then special tunes from a bugler, a piper and Brigg Singers.
It all added up to a fine and well-organised evening at the start of Brigg's extensive Jubilee events programme - a day rightly described by the Town Mayor as excellent.
More events follow today (Friday) and over the weekend, with another music gig at the Black Bull, Wrawby Street, to come on Monday.
