BUSY SCENES IN BRIGG ON DAY TWO OF THE QUEEN'S PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

Day two of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations included a family fun event at Brigg Town Football Club along the lines of those held decades ago, a traditional street party for Albert Street residents and a singer performing in the Black Bull pub.

Down at the Zebras' EC Surfacing Stadium, adjoining Hawthorn Avenue, there were some traditional games and pastimes, including hook-a-duck, tin can alley and wet-sponge throwing.
The Ancholme River Jazz Band, which had appeared at Thursday night's beacon lighting, set up again yesterday at the football ground.
The events programme reminded older Brigg residents (not just us!) of annual community carnivals the football club used to hold during close seasons in the 1960s and 1970s when many stalls were evident as well as games and entertainment.
There was a good attendance from people of all ages yesterday, with the children's play area particularly busy even before the sun put in a welcome appearance.
Yesterday's party on Albert Street was attended by resident Chris Darlington - taking a break from formal Jubilee duties as Brigg Town Crier - and many others. A temporary road closure was in place to permit the tables of food and drink to be laid out.
This party was one of three in the town to successfully seek Brigg Town Council grants to help with costs.
The Black Bull, on Wrawby Street, continued its Jubilee music programme with A Trip Through The 1970s featuring singer Kara Jowett. 

Brigg Freemasons are opening their Lodge on Cary Lane to interested members of the public today (Saturday) from 10am to 2pm. It is located in the tall building opposite the former Spencer Molloy shop.
