BRIGG BLOG'S SATURDAY CRICKET ROUND-UP FEATURES WINS FOR TWO LOCAL SIDES

Brigg Blog was pleased to see home wins recorded by the Broughton and Hibaldstow clubs in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League yesterday (Saturday, June 11). Brigg Town were not in action in Division Three West.

In Division One, Broughton's first teamers, who entertained Alkborough, won a low-scoring game by 28 runs.
This was only Broughton's second league win of the 2022 season - lifting them into mid-table and ending a poor run.
Earlier in the day, a Broughton success had seemed doubtful when they failed to use 12 of their allocated 45 overs and were bowled out for 110.
Five players reached double figures but opener Graham Wilson's 18 proved to be the top score.
However, there was soon hope for Broughton when they took to the field in an effort to defend this modest total.
Paul Clark, who had earlier contributed a handy 17, grabbed four wickets at a cost of only 31 runs, while fellow opener Shaun Clark chipped in well with three for 32.
With Alkborough reduced to 63 for seven after 18 overs, Broughton were firm favourites.
But with bowlers restricted by league rule to a maximum of nine overs apiece, the Clarks then had to leave the attack.
Broughton had no cause for concern, though, as first change bowler Sean Clixby proceeded to take two wickets in his opening over and soon added another to finish with three for eight as Alkborough were dismissed for 82.
Hibaldstow secured the full 20 points available with a two-wicket victory when hosting Cleethorpes 3rds in Division Two.
Our local villagers extended their successful run by dismissing the visitors for 105 and then inching home in what proved to a nail-biting finish.
All five bowlers called upon by Hibaldstow got among the wickets, the best analysis being Josh Cowling's two for 13.
However, all but one of the village players had to visit the crease before victory was achieved - opener Chris Nash top scoring with 27.
Broughton 2nds narrowly lost their Division Three West fixture away to leaders Haxey 2nds by three runs.
Matthew Oades took three for 42 as Haxey posted 180 for seven in their 45 overs.
Broughton did not make the best of starts to their innings but rallied only to fall just short with 177 for five - Steve Johnstone finishing unbeaten on 74.
