HERITAGE CENTRE TO SPOTLIGHT BRIGG'S 'BEETING' HEART & MUCH MORE

Brigg Heritage Centre - located in the town centre's Angel building - will be showcasing the history of our local sugar factory which operated from the late 1920s through to closure during the final decade of the last millennium.
Many people living locally today either worked at the Scawby Brook beet-processing and sugar-making facility or knew workers who did.
The factory had its own social club and sportsground off Scawby Road.
Brigg Blog recently visited the Heritage Centre to meet its new manager (pictured above).
The detailed report below sets out what the centre currently offers and what's coming up.

FROM BRIGG HERITAGE CENTRE

In March 2022, Brigg Heritage Centre welcomed Glyn Alexander - our new manager.
Glyn comes to us with a background in design and business management and his skills are already beginning to enhance our visitor experience and will be a great asset in the future so watch this space...
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has been on everyone’s mind and Brigg Heritage Centre created a small exhibition on the Bridge, celebrating the Queen’s life in photographs. The exhibition runs throughout June 2022, so you still have time to pop in and have a look; it’s amazing the memories it evokes of her long life and ‘Decades of Dedication’.

The Hobbyist Showcase, our latest pop-up exhibition, opened 2nd June 2022, exhibiting a selection of crafts, collections, and hobbies - from embroidery, ceramic painting, bottle collecting, to genealogy – celebrating local creative and artistic pursuits. The exhibition runs until mid-August where we will be installing our contribution of...
Brigg’s ‘Beeting’ Heart for 2022 Heritage Open Days in September: ‘A cloying smell, muddy village lanes and the sugar beet campaign! An exhibition exploring the ‘seed-to-sack’ processes and the impact on Brigg’s Sugar Factory on its staff, its sporting/social yesteryear, on local communities and landscape’.
Education is so important to us and from April through July 2022 we have had (and plan more) fun days with St Barnabas C of E Primary School in conjunction with Brigg Library and the Rabbit Hole Independent Bookshop.
During July and August, Heritage Craft Workshops will take place for adults (and children aged 11 and over).
Our children’s craft workshops continue, on Farmers’ Market Saturdays, with an exciting programme during the summer with things to make and new skills to learn.

Our permanent collection

We have a fantastic permanent collection in our two main galleries. Our star attraction is the famous ‘Brigg Raft’ which dates to 800 B.C. The time-frame of exhibits ranges from the Bronze Age to the 20th Century (with emphasis on the social history of Brigg and the Ancholme Valley).
When you visit, please sign our Visitor Book and don’t forget to browse in our Little Shop.
“Specially Selected” items await you if you are looking for that something “a little bit different”. Gifts supplied by the Artisan Room in Louth and Lincolnshire produced food gifts from A Little Bit Of Lincolnshire in Lincoln.
For information about any of the above, please contact the Heritage Centre on 01724 296771 or e-mail briggheritage.centre@northlincs.gov.uk

Come and say hello to our new manager, Glyn; he will be delighted to welcome you to the Heritage Centre which is open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am-2pm.
