SUNDAY'S PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS GO AHEAD IN BRIGG DESPITE GLOOMY WEATHER

Events went ahead on day four of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Brigg, despite gloomy and cool weather.
Thankfully, heavy morning showers were not followed by others of a similar nature early in the afternoon, and the Sunday (June 5) programme proceeded.
People were invited to bring tables, chairs and picnics with them to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment laid on by Brigg Town Council.
The authority also provided a grant to help with the cost of a residents' street party on Burgess Road  which went ahead (see pictures here).
Town Mayor Coun Brian Parker arrived in style to officially open the centre-piece event in the Market Place, travelling along the River Ancholme aboard the Leo from Glanford Boat Club, on Island Carr. The club provided free river trips at the weekend, operating from a landing stage near the Ancholme Way Bridge.
The skipper kindly stopped his craft after passing under the County Bridge early yesterday afternoon so pictures could be taken.

Coun Parker then made his way on foot from Manley Gardens to the Market Place where he took to the spacious temporary stage - a trailer kindly donated for the occasion by local company John Reid Transport.
The Town Mayor described Brigg as a wonderful town and led those present in singing The National Anthem.
Popular local singers Rachel Day and Ian 'Mash' Baxter (pictured) then performed some popular hits.
Sadly, due to the threat of rain, many people who might well have attended decided to stay indoors.
Today (Monday, June 6) will see another Platinum Jubilee event being staged at the Black Bull pub, on Wrawby Street - Noughties Nostalgia, with singer Brad Mack, from 8pm to 10pm. All welcome - free admission. Last night (Sunday) a Shania Twain Tribute by Amanda Harry was well received by customers seated inside the Black Bull. She impressed them.... much!

10am update: The Black Bull said this morning that, due to circumstances beyond its control, tonight's singer will no longer be performing.
