BROUGHTON SHOW 2022 COMING UP: COULD BRIGG ESTABLISH SOMETHING SIMILAR AT THE REC?

Many people from Brigg and district will be interested in attending Broughton Show 2022 - offering "fun for all."
What is the 75th show will be held on the Scawby Road Recreation Ground DN20 0AB on Sunday, July 10 (9.30am to 5pm).
Admission costs just £5 for adults (children free).
"This year is going to be a big Show," Brigg Blog has been informed.
"We've 40 vintage cars coming, free kids' entertainment with Mr Dan the Circus Man doing a circus skills workshop (although adults can join in if they wish).
"Little Enchantments are doing a sing-a-long with the 'Snow Sisters'; Broughton Scorpion Taekwondo are doing a demo.
"We also have the usual Horse Show events - Heavy Horse, Shetland Ponies, Working Hunters; the Dog Show; lots of trade stands including food stands, a craft fair and refreshments by Nanny Anne from Broughton.
"Alpacas & Friends are bringing some Alpacas to the Show this year for a Meet and Greet!"
The Dog Show (entry fee £1) with various classes, will see judging start from 2pm.

The same weekend there will be a scarecrow event and a street boot sale around the town (more details to follow in due course).
Reading the email received about Broughton Show set Brigg Blog thinking why our market town can't manage something similar.
Other North Lincolnshire towns and even some of the larger villages have been hosting annual shows for decades - notable examples being Winterton, Messingham and Epworth.
Brigg has a ready-made and sizeable location - the Recreation Ground, off Wrawby Road - with nearby Brigg Town Football Club boasting facilities, including the clubhouse, which could well prove useful for any future Brigg Town Show.
Volunteers would need to step forward to establish and then organise such events, of course and a lot of work would be involved.
However, not too many years ago there were some family-related Sunday fun events staged on Brigg Rec by the Residents' Unity Group (RUG), based on the nearby Springbank estate.
Later, something along show lines was also held as a one-off on the Rec to mark Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012. This was organised by a committee made up of volunteers and councillors, with the support of Brigg Town Council.

PICTURED: Turning the clock back to 2001 when RUG organised a show-style event on the Rec Ground. It was well attended, with various games and events, including a five-a-side football tournament. Ken Harrison's picture shows the then Brigg & Goole MP Ian Cawsey (second from right, back row) presenting the winners' trophy. We think the final might have been between the Ancholme team (Brigg) and Priory A (Ashby). Well-known charity fundraiser 'Chalkie' White, from Scunthorpe, is third from right on the back row. Adam Dunderdale - Brigg footballer and cricketer - is extreme left on the front row, holding a medal.
