NEW LEASE OF LIFE FOR FORMER BRIGG TOWN HALL

Changes can be made to the former Town Hall in Brigg now that North Lincolnshire Council has granted planning permission.
Described today as Council Offices on Cary Lane, the detached premises were used as the Town Hall in the late 1960s/early 1970s.
Brigg Urban District Council, its owner, held meetings and there were offices for some of the authority's senior staff.
Formal approval has now been given to extend bathroom facilities (involving additional toilets) and to replace the front entrance porch.
A delegated assessment report by council staff noted: "The application seeks consent for the replacement of an existing timber porch with a new porch of similar dimension to the main entrance of the property. To the rear of the property the application seeks to construct an extension to provide four toilet cubicles."
The assessment said what's being proposed "will have no visual amenity implications."
North Lincolnshire Council staff are to use the Cary Lane building - the authority having recent declared Hewson House surplus to requirements and relocated employees from Station Road - the majority to sites in Scunthorpe.
When Brigg UDC was abolished in 1974, the Cary Lane premises were used by Glanford Borough Council as offices until it, too, was abolished in 1996 when North Lincolnshire Council took charge of local services as the new unitary authority.
The Cary Lane office block was rented to Humberside Police by the council for a brief period until relatively recently.
