With National Picnic Week 2022 starting in the UK today, Brigg has a couple of super sites available to local folk of all ages and particularly families.
To paraphrase actor Sir Michael Caine, not a lot of people know that our community has a dedicated free-to-use picnic area.
It is located beside the Old River Ancholme between the ancient towpath and the new Ancholme Valley Way footpath & cycle route.
The picnic area, with tables and seating made from durable recycled plastic, looks across the river towards Glanford Boat Club on the opposite bank.
The Millennium Green, off Elwes Street, has similar outdoor furniture and is also close to the Old River.
National Picnic Week runs from Saturday, June 18 to Sunday, June 26.
Brigg Blog has received a press release outlining the top picnic spots pictured on world-famous social media platform Instagram.
Eager to provide some picnic inspiration, experts at Cazaar.co.uk decided to find out the most Instagrammable picnic spots throughout the UK.
This has been achieved by extracting a 'seed list' of 21 popular picnic locations and totting up the number of hashtags each generated.
There are no Lincolnshire sites on this "most picture-perfect list" - led by Chatsworth House, in the Peak District, with 127,319.
Hopefully, over the coming days Brigg people who use Instagram will post their picnic pix on this image-led platform, showing them enjoying local picnic spots. Instagram also takes video footage.
The Millennium Green and the dedicated picnic area opposite the boat club are both managed by Brigg Town Council, which has furnished the tables and seating.
George Nesna, director of Cazaar.co.uk, has provided useful tips for a perfect picnic:
- Ensure your food doesn’t spill everywhere and is easy to transport by using lidded glass jars when preparing your picnic basket, which is also a great way to be more environmentally friendly.
- In order to have a more sustainable picnic, try to pack real plates and, if that’s not an option, bring compostable disposable plates with you.
- If possible, use beeswax wraps for your food. These are reusable, compostable and biodegradable.
- Have a cool box with you so you can keep the food fresh and the drinks ice cold.
- Pack some fun board games to play - there won’t be a single moment of boredom!
- Don’t forget to bring wet wipes for cleaning your hands, or even plates, and bin bags as well, so that all rubbish can be easily disposed of.
- Pack a chopping board for your picnic - it's always handy to have a flat surface to chop or place food on.
People in Brigg who decide to picnic should, of course, use the litter bins provided alongside the riverbank and on the Green.
