TRIBUTE TO WELL-KNOWN BRIGG BUSINESSMAN BRIAN RIGGALL

The death of Brian Riggall means Brigg has lost one of its best-known and longest-serving retailers.
Brians DIY was established in 1964. Many Brigg customers have watched it expand and diversify over the years from a hardware business on Wrawby Street to offer much more as the premises extended alongside nearby Grammar School Road South (illustrated by pictures seen below).
Additions included Santa's Attic selling a wide range of goods and gifts for Christmas, and latterly cycles, repairs and accessories, as well as mobility vehicles.
Brian always championed personal service for the shop's customers, including helpful DIY advice.
Many people during his lengthy tenure popped in for some screws (still sold individually, if required) or even a solitary timber off-cut - all willingly accommodated despite the minimal cost.
It even became possible to get help with household projects, with someone calling round - by appointment - to do the work, if required.
Sadly, Brian lost his wife and business partner, Sylvia, in April this year.
The picture above comes courtesy of Ken Harrison, Chair of the Brigg Matters magazine.
"How we perhaps best remember him," Ken rightly says. "Taken in 2014....when he and Sylvia were ever-present in the shop."
Brigg Blog visited Brian's DIY on Friday (September 16) to pass on our personal condolences to the management and staff.
We have asked to be informed about the funeral arrangements, once finalised, for the benefit of our site's followers who got to know Brian over the years.
