PLANNING AHEAD: A proposed rear extension and new front porch at Pondarosa, 40 Kings Avenue, Brigg, has been sanctioned by North Lincolnshire Council.
The local authority has also granted an application to erect a two-storey side extension (following the removal of an existing garage) at 71 Victoria Road, Barnetby. Also approved are plans for a loft conversion, internal alterations and the erection of a single-storey rear extension and a single-storey front extension at Inglenook, Scawby Road, Scawby Brook. Permission has also been granted to erect a single-storey rear extension at Sycamore House, 4 Maltkiln Lane, Elsham.
Neighbouring West Lindsey District Council has given approval to erect a dwelling on land at Highfield, Thornton Road, South Kelsey.


TREE-MENDOUS: We can expect more saplings to be planted in Brigg - hopefully becoming mature trees in due course. North Lincolnshire Council is stepping up its initiative to eventually plant 172,000 - one for every resident living in its area. It is now more than halfway there, with 90,000+ taking root and more to follow. A recent update explained: "The council, communities, businesses and residents have backed the project launched two years ago with dozens of areas enhanced in communities across Ashby, Barton, Brigg, Scunthorpe and the Isle of Axholme." Authority leader Coun Coun Rob Waltham (Brigg & Wolds) said: “We are committed to making North Lincolnshire a cleaner, even greener area for people to live, work and visit." BROADCAST: Radio Humberside has been to Brigg railway station to collect local views about one form of public transport. No passenger trains have called since January when they were suspended (situation to be reviewed in December 2022). While a train operator has been offering one million tickets to would-be passengers for only £1 each, there are none for potential passengers to board in Brigg or Kirton Lindsey. Radio Humberside's Naj Modak (North Lincolnshire reporter) is pictured here, seeking opinions from Ken Harrison (Chair of Brigg Matters magazine) and former Town Mayor Coun Ann Eardley on platform one earlier this week. The Brigg Line's passenger train service was reduced to Saturdays only in 1993. All trains - three to Grimsby & Cleethorpes and three to Retford & Sheffield - were suspended in January this year due to staffing issues being experienced by the operator.
