Additions to a building in Brigg town centre where a showroom is planned have been approved by North Lincolnshire Council.
Planning permission and listed building consent have now been granted for 2 Market Place.
House of Stoves applied to install an external solid fuel flue and two balanced flues "to the side gable elevation."
A supporting statement supplied to the local authority with the planning application explained: "The outlet utilises an existing opening used for ventilation from the previous commercial use (betting shop) and can easily be reversed should the tenant vacate the premises without any affect to the building fabric."
A further heritage statement said: As part of the businesses showroom provision they have a number of stoves and appliances on display, a number of which are active and would share the provision of a single external flue together with two balanced flues for the gas appliances."
House of Stoves sought approval through an agent.
The ground floor "will act as a showroom for House of Stoves and will showcase their products (solid fuel and gas fired appliances)," planners were informed.
A council planning assessment report (dated September 2) said: "The conservation officer considers there to be some impact on the listed building; however, this is mitigated by affixing the flues on a modernised part of the building and painted black to blend in the downpipes on surrounding buildings.
"Furthermore, the alteration is justified as it ensures a new use of the building and therefore it will not be left vacant, which is harmful to the character."
North Lincolnshire Council granted permission, including a condition which stipulates that the external flue shall have a black powder-coated finish "and once
installed, it shall thereafter be retained as such."
