BRIGG SCHOOL 'OLD BOYS' HELP LINCOLNSHIRE SECURE NATIONAL TITLE

Two well-known cricketers who honed their skills at a Brigg school helped Lincolnshire win a national seniors' title for the very first time.
Andy Sharp and John Taylor were in the Lincs line-up which beat Berkshire by five wickets at Kidderminster (in the Midlands) to win the Over 60s Bowl - the first honour ever won by the county at this age group level.
Lincolnshire's batsmen faced a challenge after being set a big target of 250 to win.
But they cruised home with 23 balls to spare, mainly thanks to a wonderful hundred from Andy Sharp (ex-Brigg Town) who scored 109 runs from 105 balls faced, hitting 17 boundaries.
Having spent some successful seasons with our local club, wicketkeeper/batsman Andy now plays for Keelby-based Brocklesby Park in Lincolnshire League Division Three East - unbeaten section champions this summer, their first season in the county competition.
Andy has appeared many times for the Briggensians XI in reunion 'Old Boys' games against Sir John Nelthorpe School.
Also in the Lincs Over 60s team which lifted the title in the Midlands on Tuesday (September 13) was John Taylor, who lives in Brigg.
He has played cricket for Scunthorpe club Appleby-Frodingham since the early 1970s and has made more runs for the Steelmen than any other batsman.
John took a wicket in the 60+ Bowl Final, and it was an important one. He dismissed Berkshire's main contributor who hit 121 at the top of the order.
The full scorecard for the game can be viewed here...
We think the team picture (seen above) of Lincolnshire Over 60s celebrating - subsequently posted on social media by Appleby-Frodingham CC - should be credited to the Lincolnshire Cricket Board (the sport's local governing body, also known as Lincolnshire Cricket Ltd).
Andy Sharp is extreme right on the front row; John Taylor in fourth from right on the back row.
Isle of Axholme seam bowler Paul Bradley (centre, holding the trophy) skippered Lincs.
Andy Sharp is also pictured below in 1990 while playing for Brigg Town and in July 2019 in wicketkeeping gear when appearing in the Sir John Nelthorpe School v Briggensians sports reunion fixture.
Cricket lovers in Brigg and district will be rooting for Appleby-Frodingham this Sunday (September 18).
The Steelmen will be playing on the hallowed turf of the Headingley Ground in Leeds - following in the footsteps of world famous Test players down the decades as well as Yorkshire county club stalwarts.
App-Frod have reached the Yorkshire Premier League Champions Play-off Final and will be meeting Woodlands, from 10.30am.
Many supporters from North Lincolnshire will be attending, with others seeking to follow Frod's progress online via the wonders of modern technology.
