HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN: LARGE ATTENDANCE EXPECTED IN BRIGG FOR TONIGHT'S CANDLELIT VIGIL

A large attendance is anticipated in Brigg Market Place tonight (Sunday, September 18) as local people gather in tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ahead of her State Funeral tomorrow.
A National Moment of Reflection is being held across the UK at 8pm today, and our local candlelit vigil will be centred on the Bandstand.
Townsfolk can take along candles (real or battery) and the Town Council is asking people to assemble by 7.50pm.
Among them will be some who, in 1977, watched Her Majesty visit Brigg Recreation Ground to view a pageant staged in her honour which involved many local children.
People have been visiting St John's Church, in the town centre, over recent days to pay their respects - signing a book of condolence and/or sitting in the pews to reflect on Her Majesty's life and her 70-year reign.
A member of the Independent Brigg Line Rail Group travelled down to London in midweek by train from Doncaster to King's Cross and stood for four hours, joining the thousands of people who lined the route from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall ahead of the lying-in-state.
The Queen's funeral will take place at 11am on Monday (September 19) in Westminster Abbey, London.
Most Brigg residents will be watching TV coverage in their homes on what has been made a special bank holiday.
Others will be opting to visit local licensed premises to view the service on big screen TV.
Brigg & District Servicemen's Club - founded in 1920 by ex-members of the Forces who had returned home after the First World War -  will be opening the Coney Court venue at 10.30am. Other hostelries will be doing likewise in the morning.
Flags across Brigg remain at half-mast as a mark of respect.
Most Brigg retail premises will be closed all day tomorrow (Monday) with some opening in the morning, shutting during the funeral and then reopening later.

A North Lincolnshire Council book of condolence located in Brigg's Angel building library/community hub will continue to be open for people to sign on Tuesday (September 20).
