A free-to-view and eagerly-awaited exhibition about Brigg Sugar Factory is now open to the public.
Brigg Blog went to take a 'soft launch' look at the weekend and was very impressed by what's on show at the Heritage Centre, in the Market Place's Angel building.
In addition to informative text about this major local employer, Brigg's 'Beeting' Heart has a colour video of lorries arriving at the factory decades ago and unloading beet brought in from farmers' fields.
But many visitors may see the wide range of pictures on display as the highlight - showing the factory, many of the people who worked there and events at the Social Club, off Scawby Road, plus teams which used the adjoining sportsground.
Volunteers have even gone to the trouble of displaying some beet, with the tops left on, dug from a local field a few days ago!
The entire process from field to finished sugar for the table can be recalled through the exhibition.
There are pictures of the factory being built back the late 1920s.
Its closure, in the early 1990s, was a major loss to our area's economy and employment, but many people today have fond memories of the factory.
The exhibition can be visited during Brigg Heritage Centre's opening hours for the remainder of this year: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 10am to 2pm; Saturdays, 10am to 2pm.
Brigg Blog was anticipating the exhibition attracting people from a wide distance.
However, the visitors' book, when we called in last Saturday, included an entry from someone resident in the Falkland Islands - 8,000 miles away!
A 66-page glossy brochure from Heritage Lincolnshire, called Lincolnshire Heritage Open Days 2022, includes an entry for Brigg's 'Beeting' Heart.
This publicity will help to attract visitors to our town's exhibition from across the historic county.
The booklet lists Lincolnshire Heritage Open Days at a host of venues between September 9 and 18 (Heritage Week).
We stress again that Brigg Heritage Centre's contribution is already open, will continue until the end of 2022 and may possibly be extended into the New Year.
Brigg Heritage Centre is on the first floor of the Angel (stairs and lift available).
It can be accessed from the front or rear of the building.
