BRIGG PEOPLE MOURNING QUEEN ELIZABETH II WHO MADE A JUBILEE VISIT TO OUR TOWN

St John's Church in Brigg town centre will be open today (Friday) so local people can pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II who died yesterday, aged 96.
The parish church will be open from 10am to 3pm so local residents can light candles and/or sit in quiet reflection on what the Queen has meant to them.
At 3pm the church bells will toll to mark the Queen's passing.
There will be a service at 9.30am in St John's on Sunday (September 11).
As part of Her Majesty's royal tour of many communities nationwide, she visited the town's Recreation Ground in summer 1977 during Silver Jubilee celebrations marking her 25 years as monarch.
Accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, her husband, she arrived by car along Wrawby Road as locals lined up to catch a glimpse of the couple.
The Mayor of Brigg-based Glanford Borough Council, Coun Philip Wood, was presented to Her Majesty as she entered the sportsground.
He then accompanied her as she met other civic dignitaries and officials.
They included Brigg Town Mayor, Coun Bryan Robins, and Robert Crosby, Glanford's clerk and chief executive officer.
The Queen and the Duke then watched a pageant performed by pupils from local schools.
Horses featured and the Queen stopped to admire some of them.
The pageant was staged on the Rec's cricket pitch.
For the Queen's Coronation in 1953, street parties and other events were held across Brigg.
A special archway was installed over the County Bridge - funded by Spring's, the riverside preserves-making company and major local employer.
Elizabeth Court - a housing development on the Springbank estate - was constructed by Brigg Urban District Council in the 1950s and named in the Queen's honour.
Her 50th (Golden), 60th (Diamond) and 70th (Platinum) Jubilees were all marked by Brigg events, in 2002, 2012 and June this year.
Brigg Blog anticipates that a book of condolence may be opened in the town which local people will be able to sign.
