BRIGG BRIDGE WILL BE LOOKING ITS BEST FOR THE TOWN'S ROYAL CELEBRATIONS

Pictures of the County Bridge in Brigg taken in March 2022

The historic County Bridge on the Old River Ancholme in Brigg town centre is to be given some tender loving care.
This will ensure the local landmark, completed in 1828, looks its best as the Queen's Platinum Jubilee approaches.
Coun Rob Waltham, the leader of North Lincolnshire Council, made reference to the bridge during the Annual Town Public Meeting held on Tuesday (March 25).
He recalled how, 11 years ago, major improvements had been carried out by North Lincolnshire Council.
Brigg Blog reported the completion of a facelift for the County Bridge in 2011.
In a post that November we mentioned the reopening of walkways which had been shut to the public for many years, and the installation of replacement metal railings.
These were "much more in keeping with the Conservation Area and the grade two listed building status of the early 19th century landmark."
Delivering a report on behalf of himself and his Brigg & Wolds Ward colleagues Couns Carl and Nigel Sherwood at Monday night's public forum, Coun Waltham also mentioned the free car parking concession which continued to be "protected" by North Lincolnshire Council, the authority having recently announced its budget for the 2022/2023 financial year beginning in early April.
He also said efforts continued to establish a 3G sports pitch at Sir John Nelthorpe School, while the newly-established Parkruns in Brigg were attracting 140-150 people.
There was a proposal to "release" the Hewson House site to be used to provide new living accommodation for people aged over 55. The council was "looking for partners."
He stressed that Holland Park (on the edge of the site) was NOT included in these proposals. This is an area of public open space off Station Road with trees, wild flowers and many bird species.
Brigg Blog took these pictures of the County Bridge earlier this week.
The images here show it is in good condition, with an absence of litter on the well-used walkway.
However, there are some weeds on the side of the bridge, while a few saplings have taken root nearby - above and near the waterline.
With the Queen's Platinum Jubilee coming up in June, the bridge will be looking its best for the royal celebrations.
Some events will be taking place in the Market Place near the bridge and also on the Ancholme.
Six years from now, Brigg will be able to celebrate the County Bridge's 200th anniversary.
