ATM CASH MACHINE REMOVED IN BRIGG

Changes have been made to a prominent listed building within Brigg town centre, including the removal of an ATM cash machine.
Following the closure of its Brigg branch at noon on Friday, January 21, 2022, Barclays sought planning permission and listed building consent to remove the ATM from the front of the premises at 9 Market Place, to be replaced by a window within the conservation area.
This ATM was taken out of use when the branch closed.
Approval to make alterations to this three-storey grade two listed building was sought from, and granted by, North Lincolnshire Council.
An assessment report compiled by local authority planning staff noted the proposed external works were connected with the closure of the branch and included:
Removal of the ATM and surround, to be replaced with a sliding sash window and mullions and the infilling of the opening with matching materials.
Removal of projecting sign and to be made good with brickwork.
Removal of individual bank letting and replacement brickwork.
The assessment added: "All of the works are proposed to the front of the building facing the Market Place and will ensure consistency of appearance with the existing listed building as a sliding sash wooden window, mullions and facing brickwork are to be used in the works to replace the ATM, its surround and signage."
Brigg Town Council was consulted about both applications, which were discussed during the latest meeting of its Planning & Environment Committee, held in the Buttercross.
North Lincolnshire planners were then informed: "Brigg Town Council has no objections but recommend a condition that timber sash windows are installed, being that this location is within the conservation area.
"It is also recommended that adequate repairs are made to the door and outer exterior is kept in good state of repair as this is a prominent position of Brigg Market Place."
HSBC, NatWest and now Barclays having successively closed their Brigg town centre branches and removed the ATMs, Lloyds is now the town's only remaining 'high street' bank operating from a building with staff on hand to advise and assist customers. This is located on Wrawby Street and has ATMs inside and outside the premises.

In October 2021, Barclays announced the impending closure of its Brigg outlet and set out the reasons why.
