POLICING MATTERS AT THE BRIGG TOWN ANNUAL PUBLIC MEETING

It was once common practice for Brigg police to be present at monthly Town Council meetings and also some public forums.
For policy and staffing reasons, this is no longer the case. So it was heartening to see a return to old times when the Annual Brigg Town Public Meeting was held recently in the Buttercross.
PC Steve Parsons was not only in attendance in response to Brigg Town Council's invitation, he gave an informative report, answered questions and stayed for the entire meeting rather than leaving after his section of the agenda had been dealt with.
Steve is a member of the Brigg & Wolds neighbourhood policing team.
Our picture shows him making note of a point of interest during the session.
He began by reporting a small reduction in local crime, and then informed the meeting that Humberside Police had been given 'good' gradings in all sections by the national inspectorate and had collected a gold award.
Issues drawn to the officer's attention included heavy commercial vehicles being parked on the Newlands estate, motor-cycle noise annoying some residents, and vehicles continuing to access and be parked within the town centre's pedestrian area.
Reference was also made to a recent incident when a number of police officers attended an address on a suburban street in Brigg.
As many elderly people live in this part of the town, assurances were sought, and received, that there was no cause for future concern.

Despite considerable pre-publicity being given to the Annual Town Meeting, only a handful of local residents joined councillors and staff for this public forum in the Buttercross.
