FREE BRIGG BOAT TRIPS TO MARK QUEEN'S PLATINUM JUBILEE

Free boat trips on the River Ancholme over four days are expected to form part of celebrations held in Brigg to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Courtesy of Glanford Boat Club which is based on Island Carr, they will feature in a busy programme during the extended four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday, June 2 through to Sunday, June 5.
Brigg Blog has already mentioned some of these, including a communal afternoon tea, a flower festival and the lighting of a ceremonial beacon on the Millennium Green, Elwes Street, which has been provided by the Town Council.
But during the Annual Town Public Meeting held on Tuesday night (March 15) details of some other planned events were given.
For example, on Sunday, June 5 there will be a family fun day with a big picnic, dancing & music, a service, an evening concert... and more.
Brigg Town Clerk Kerry McGrath stressed: "We are hoping for good weather."
Posters setting out all that's on offer in Brigg to mark the Platinum Jubilee will be produced and displayed nearer the time.
Brigg Blog will also be giving a full run-down and keeping people up to date.
It is understood that the boat club, established back in the 1930s, will be hosting a regatta.
The free rides in June will bring back happy memories for those Brigg people who, in Spring 2017, were ferried along the Ancholme from the Glanford club's headquarters to a jetty near the motorway flyover bridge, close to the B&M store's rear car park.
These trips formed part of a Brigg Riverside Festival, which also included events staged by Ancholme Rowing Club on Manley Gardens.
The Firefly also offered boat trips and was pictured at the time by Ken Harrison, of Brigg Matters Magazine.
