The name of a new street in Brigg has been approved, and Bridge Court will be added near Bridge Street.
Some time ago North Lincolnshire Council posted a public notice (pictured above) near the entrance to Island Carr Road in which it said an Order would be made to add Bridge Court as a street name unless any objections were lodged with Grimsby Magistrates (now the nearest functioning court to Brigg).
No objections were forthcoming, and we understand this new street will link to the large housing estate now taking shape behind Bridge Street.
Following an application from CLS Civil Engineering Ltd, the council granted detailed planning permission last Spring for a block of apartments to be constructed close to Bridge Street. Building work is now advancing (see picture below).
This site once formed part of the Corah clothing factory complex, whose offices stood back some distance from the A18.
Until closure in 1975, Corah's - known locally as The Stocking Factory - was a major local employer, most of its workers being female.
The land was later acquired by Falcon, whose Brigg cycle factory adjoined the site.
Almost 70 new properties are being constructed here for local house-builder Keigar.
Entry to Keigar's development will be via Falcon Way, off Bridge Street, and Falcon is also the apt name chosen for this sizeable housing complex.
Streets connecting with Falcon Way will be Corah Mews and Elswick-Hopper Close (the latter remembering a well-known North Lincolnshire bike-making company).
We understand that Bridge Court will be adjacent to Corah Mews.
