The recent introduction of many new bins in Brigg was widely welcomed, but not everyone is taking proper advantage when it comes to disposing of unwanted items.
Unlike the previous bins which only accepted litter, the new versions take litter AND items suitable for recycling including newspapers, cardboard, cans and plastic bottles.
Coun Rob Waltham, the leader of North Lincolnshire Council, told the recent Annual Town Public Meeting that the new bins had boosted the capacity to collect litter and items for recycling, but he added: "The early evidence is they are not being used properly."
The morning after this public forum, Brigg Blog passed one of the new bins, on Wrawby Street, and pictured this scene.
Cardboard, which could have been torn up or folded and deposited for recycling, had just been left nearby, together with a dustbin liner (contents unknown).
Emblems displayed on the side of the new bins give an indication of what can be accepted for recycling.
