SPECIAL BOAT SERVICE BUSY IN BRIGG TODAY

A special boat service is operating in Brigg today (Wednesday, August 11)
A contractor is employing two purpose-built craft on the River Ancholme to clear weed which has sprouted and accumulated on within the waterway in recent weeks.
This green stuff traps discarded litter, and its removal also helps navigation by boats of various sizes using the river.

Many years ago, Brigg Town Council, to its credit, decided to take action against accumulations of weed during the summer months, supporting periodic cuts.
The pictures seen above, taken this morning, show the cutting craft on the Old and New 'cuts' of the Ancholme. They appeared to be working their way from the Ancholme Way flyover towards the County Bridge (seen below with weed still in evidence).

Some other interested local folk gathered to watch Operation Brigg Weed Cut today.
We spotted cutting craft near Ancholme Leisure Centre while on a Broughton-bound bus this morning.

Having returned to Brigg we decided to take a look at what was going on on both stretches of the river, and afford it what newspaper journalists decades ago used to call Splash Coverage!
