PLAN TO CONVERT BROUGHTON PUB INTO DOMESTIC DWELLING

A well-known pub in Broughton will be converted to a residential dwelling if planning permission is forthcoming, with an ancillary building being demolished.
A public consultation period is now under way on the application seeking approval to change the use of the Dog & Rat on the High Street - occupying a corner site which adjoins the town's Co-operative store.
There has been a pub here since the 19th century - the current hostelry being constructed in the late 1950s.
A statement submitted in support of the application says this pub has now been closed for more than 3½ years and points to the existence of other licensed premises in the town and nearby. Four on-site parking spaces are proposed.
Planning permission is being sought for the change of use of the public house to a dwelling, including demolition of an existing outbuilding.
North Lincolnshire Council's public consultation period for this application will end on September 7.
Some of us who played in local games leagues for Brigg-based teams can remember visiting the Dog & Rat for darts and dominoes.
