LEE FIELDEN BRINGS BRIGG FOOTBALL MEMORIES TO THE TABLE

Continuing Brigg Blog's series of articles about the town's varied presence in the Scunthorpe Sunday Football League over many years, we've been sent some final tables for campaigns in the late 1970s and early 1980s by Barnetby's Lee Fielden.
He has ALL the league's season-by-season rankings since its inception in the mid-1960s.
Lee collected them from various sources to give to well-known league official Keith Dixon when the Sunday competition reached its 50th anniversary.
The 1983/84 season was an interesting one with various Brigg sides involved.
Geordie Fox's Servicemen's Club finished mid-table in Division Two.
Brigg Royales and Black Bull were both in Division Four - Bob Steels' Royales managing a mid-table spot while the pub team finished second from bottom. Brigg Sugar came third in Division Five.
Midway through that season we got a transfer (fee undisclosed!) from the Lincolnshire & South Humberside Times newsroom in Brigg to the Scunthorpe Telegraph sports desk to work alongside Bob.
He covered Scunthorpe United matches on a Saturday and then enjoyed his matches with Brigg Royales the following day - often after a lengthy drive home..
Other teams from our district involved that season were Broughton Workingmen's Club, Hibaldstow and Wishing Well (Worlaby).
