EXCITING FINISH FEATURES IN BRIGG BLOG'S SATURDAY CRICKET ROUND-UP

Both Broughton cricket teams managed to play yesterday (Saturday, July 31) although the Lincolnshire County League game involving Brigg Town was called off because of wet ground conditions following Friday's torrential rain.
Broughton's first teamers secured a very welcome win in Lincoln, beating Hartsholme by three wickets and securing victory with only one ball still to be bowled in the 45th and final over. It proved to be an exciting finish.
Hartsholme posted 177 for seven (Robbie Glentworth taking three for 23) while Broughton's successful run chase owed much to the efforts of Nick Dobbs who cracked 92.
Broughton are third in the table, with the top two at the end of the season in mid-September being in line for promotion to the top flight.
In Division Two, Broughton 2nds, who prop up the table, hosted leaders Barton Town at the Scawby Road venue.
Broughton were bowled out for 48, of which opener Nick Crawford scored 27 with no one else making double figures.
Barton's quick-scoring opening batsmen soon took their side to within two runs of victory before Andrew Hillyard managed to break the partnership by taking a wicket.
But Barton reached their target without further loss, leaving Broughton without a single point from this fixture.
Brigg Town were due to visit Haxey 2nds in Division Three. Both teams take five points from weather-cancelled matches.
Hibaldstow, who were scheduled to play down at Alford in Division One, conceded the fixture and have had five points deducted from their season's tally.
