BRIGG BLOG'S CRICKET ROUND-UP: MIXED FORTUNES FOR LOCAL SIDES

Brigg Town Cricket Club and Broughton were both involved in low scoring matches in different divisions of the Lincolnshire County Cricket League yesterday (Saturday, August 21). Meanwhile, Hibaldstow struggled with the bat for some time but then recovered to make a decent total.

It was a day of mixed fortunes for our local sides.
Brigg visited Immingham to play East Halton and were bowled out for only 61 - going on to lose this Division Three match by the wide margin of eight wickets. Nigel Beacock (with 15) and Nick Beacock (13 not out) were the only Brigg batsmen to make double figures. Veteran former Brigg Town wicketkeeper/batsman Andy Sharp scored an unbeaten 37 as East Halton lost just two wickets while securing victory in the 15th over. Brigg gained no points from this fixture.
Promotion-seeking Broughton were down at Alford and secured the maximum 20 points on offer by dismissing their hosts for 86 in Division One. Broughton then lost six wickets in chasing down this modest target. Jake Parker was in form with the ball for Broughton, taking five for 25 in his permitted nine overs, while Richard Green later top scored with 26.
Hibaldstow took seven bonus points from a Division One home game with Clee Town Laportes, despite losing by 56 runs.
Laportes posted 210 all-out as Josh Robinson took four for 48 for the villagers.
Hibaldstow then looked in danger of a very low response when they slumped to 17 for six.

However, a praiseworthy recovery followed and they eventually managed 154 for eight. Chris Nash made 49, Tom Taylor hit 30 and Jon Taylor ended 18 not out.
