BRIGG BLOG'S CRICKET PREVIEW FOR SATURDAY AUGUST 21

Brigg Town, Hibaldstow and both Broughton teams could do with good points returns for different reasons in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League tomorrow (Saturday, August 21).

Broughton's first teamers will be keen to win handsomely at lowly Alford to strengthen their bid for promotion from Division One.

In the same section, foot-of-the-table Hibaldstow seek to secure only their second win of the season when they host Clee Town Laportes.
Broughton 2nds, who are second from bottom in Division Two, have a vital home fixture against Cleethorpes 3rds. If Broughton can win they will move above the Meggies and out of the relegation zone.
Mid-table Brigg Town, who are away to East Halton, could yet finish the season in the top half.
East Halton, who are just a place above Brigg, are based at Immingham's Blossom Way Ground.
All these Lincs League games begin at 1pm.

AGGERS 'DO': Enthusiasts of this summer sport who live in the Brigg area might well be interested in attending a forthcoming cricket evening. Well-known broadcaster Jonathan 'Aggers' Agnew will be starring at Scunthorpe's Plowright Theatre on Tuesday, September 21. Tickets are now on sale. Follow this link for full details...

COUNTY CONCERNS: Lincolnshire’s hopes of retaining their status in National Counties Eastern Division One are now on a knife-edge after they suffered a heavy defeat against Suffolk at Sleaford. The visitors won by an innings and 82 runs - a very wide margin indeed!
Bottom-placed Cambridgeshire are 11 points behind Lincolnshire and will almost certainly have to beat Norfolk this weekend to guarantee their own survival and instead relegate Lincs to Division Two.

This competition was known for many decades as the Minor Counties Championship. In the 1980s we reported on Lincolnshire's games, home and away, for the Scunthorpe Telegraph, the Grimsby Telegraph and a few other papers.

One of our last scheduled appearances in this role came in 1990 when Lincs reached the Minor Counties Knockout Cup final at the world famous Lord's Ground in London!
