Brigg Town cricketers had to sit out another blank Saturday in the Lincolnshire County League Division Three yesterday (Saturday, August 7) but Hibaldstow and Broughton 2nds were in action in other sections of the competition.
Brigg's scheduled game at the Recreation Ground was called off, but Hibaldstow had a home fixture against Louth 2nds in Division One. The local villagers were up against it after Louth posted 217 for eight in their 45 overs, and Hibaldstow were dismissed for 127, securing only four bonus points. They remain at the foot of the table. Josh Robinson took three wickets for Hibaldstow, while Josh Cowling scored 37 at the top of the order.
There was a very welcome home win for Broughton 2nds in Division Two. They beat Cherry Willingham 2nds - the only side below them in the rankings.
The visitors elected to bat first at the Scawby Road ground but were skittled for only 57, with Broughton's experienced seam bowler Paul Clark (pictured above) taking four wickets for 24 runs in his nine overs and Brett Fish managing three for seven.
Broughton then lost both openers but were steered to an eight-wicket win by Sam Benson and Russ Blackburn who scored 12 not out and 17 not out respectively. Broughton secured the maximum 20 points available.
The promoton-chasing Broughton first teamers were without a fixture in Division One yesterday.
