BRIGG LINE TRAINS RUNNING TODAY AND HOPEFULLY VISITING FOOTBALL FANS WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE

It's good to report that the Saturdays-only passenger train service through Brigg is running as timetabled today (August 21).
Operating company staffing shortages and other factors have caused some cancellations in recent weeks, with substitute buses instead.
However, the first Sheffield to Cleethorpes two-car diesel unit took to the tracks this morning and is seen here on the border between Brigg and Kettleby at 9.20am.
Two further trains to Cleethorpes and three from the resort to Sheffield are timetabled to call at Brigg station later today.
Information received mid-morning from the Independent Brigg Line Rail Group suggests that all six trains are likely to operate without the need for substitute buses.
Hopefully, Hallam Football Club supporters will opt to come by train from Sheffield for this afternoon's match against Brigg Town at the EC Surfacing Stadium (Hawthorns) which kicks off at 3pm.

The rail group points out that Brigg Town will be hosting Retford on October 23. This North Nottinghamshire town  has direct trains to Brigg on Saturdays. So we expect a number of Retford supporters to take advantage and pay us a visit. Efforts will be made to publicise this in North Notts ahead of this match.

Old trainspotting habits from the 1960s live on for some of us, and the public footpath over the fields from Brigg to Wrawby offers excellent panoramic views of trains traversing the single-track section between Wrawby Junction and Brigg level crossing on Bigby Road. Sadly, from a pictorial point of view, they are no longer steam-hauled!
As you venture north of the border.down Kettleby way, Lincolnshire County Council offers reminders about crossing the local government divide by including its name on the helpful public footpath indicator signs.
Judging by the picture below taken this morning, someone (not us!) clearly thinks this is a feather in the cap of the Lincoln-based authority, and has highlighted the fact with the help of a passing pigeon!
