REFURB PLANS APPROVED FOR UNIQUE BRIGG BUILDING 'WORTHY OF CONSERVATION'

Permission has been granted to refurbish a unique Brigg building (pictured here).
Proposed partial window/door replacement can proceed on Block D at Sir John Nelthorpe School, off Grammar School Road, following North Lincolnshire Council's approval of an application in its role as the local planning authority.
Block D is the name given to the former Brigg Grammar School boarding house, now used for other purposes.
The council's conservation officer was consulted for his views on the proposed work.
"Block D is an attractive later Victorian building worthy of conservation," he said.
"There is no objection to the proposed windows and doors as they are of a traditional style and made from timber.
"There is no objection to the windows being double glazed as they are not being installed in the principal listed building.
"The applicant has requested the change the material from accoya to utile timber which is acceptable."
The listed building mentioned by the officer is the original 17th century schoolroom which is near to the boarding house, erected in the 1870s.
The old schoolroom is Brigg's only grade one listed building.
After Brigg Grammar School was phased out in 1976, the new Sir John Nelthorpe comprehensive offered onsite board and lodging to pupils until July 1993 when the facility was finally withdrawn.
The former boarding house has been re-roofed in recent years.
