HIGH FIVES ALL ROUND FOR YOUNG BROUGHTON CRICKETER

A former Brigg Town cricketer - perhaps better known for his batting - showed form with the ball in the Mick Walker North Lindsey League on Sunday (July 3).
Nathan Stewart took four for 21 for Hibaldstow 2nds in a nail-biting Division Two victory at Normanby Park 2nds, whose fine ground is pictured above.
Hibaldstow posted 220 for nine and then contained their hosts to 218 for seven, to win by two runs after a very close finish.
This was Hibaldstow 2nds' second win of the season in Division Two but they remain second from bottom, with Broughton 3rds below them.
Following Saturday's Lincolnshire County League programme and our earlier round-up post, the Broughton club has kindly furnished us with details of a notable performance achieved for their 2nd XI which certainly merits a mention.
Bowler Sam Hayton (pictured above) picked up his first career five-wicket haul during a fine away win at Caistor 2nds in Division Three West.
He is the grandson of legendary Broughton all-rounder Fred Graves - a hard-hitting batsman and quick bowler over many years.
Broughton batted first at the Brigg Road Ground and posted 175 for six in their 40 overs, with Steve Johnstone scoring 50 and Paul Clark 43.
Caistor were then dismissed for 84 - young Sam grabbing five for 23 in seven overs after opening the attack. High fives all round to celebrate his success, no doubt!
Broughton 2nds lead this division by four points, having now played half their 14 scheduled fixtures.
At the other end of the table, Brigg Town are seven points behind second-from-bottom Caistor with a game in hand.
The Broughton and Hibaldstow first teams are fifth in Division One and Division Two respectively and have yet to reach the mid-way point in their campaigns.
Cricket coaching sessions for girls aged 11 to 17 are being held every Thursday until September 15 at Broughton Recreation Ground, from 6.30pm.
A qualified coach is supplying tuition and advice. For information, call 07708 579346.
Each session is followed by another for women and girls, organised by Broughton Cricket Club.

Pictured below is Ben Fish - Fred Graves' great nephew - who  has just hit two successive half-centuries for Broughton.
