BRIGG SET TO ENDURE ITS HOTTEST DAY ON RECORD

What is believed to be the highest temperature ever forecast for Brigg has been notified by the Met Office.
The current heatwave is expected to intensify with a 38C (100.4F) maximum expected locally at some point tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday, July 19).
Today (Monday) the Met Office is suggesting 36C (96.8F) as the highest for Brigg.
Brigg has heat-related weather warnings in place today and tomorrow - accompanied by red warning triangles from the Met Office!

People are being strongly advised to stay out of the sun and keep in the shade.
Brigg Blog suggests that all dog owners give 'walkies' a miss for a couple of days and keep their pets at home in the shade with water bowls being topped up regularly and fans switched on for their benefit, if available.
High temperatures are also forecast late at night and in the early hours.
The heat will lessen in our area on Wednesday, forecasters say.
Brigg Blog is keen to receive temperature information recorded locally by people on Monday and Tuesday.
If you can help, please state the location of any readings and the time they were taken.
In mid-July 2021 we posted about a temperature of 103F (almost 40C) being reached inside Brigg's wooden and glass signalbox near the Bigby Road crossing (thermometer pictured here). Outdoors, in the shade, temperatures rose into the high 80s on the same day by way of comparison.
On July 25, 2019 Brigg Blog's mobile phone 'app' gave a reading of 33F (91.4C) in the covered area of the Britannia Inn beer garden while we were sinking a welcome pint.
The Met Office uses Stevenson screens to record official temperatures - white boxes with slats which allow air to flow through.
"Stevenson screens face north which, combined with their colour and slats, give us the best measure of the current temperature, without getting too hot in direct sunlight or being too cool in the shade," the Met Office explains.
The highest officially recorded temperature in the UK by the Met Office is 38.7C (102F) at Cambridge on July 25, 2019.
It is highly likely this will be topped tomorrow.
Brigg County Primary School, on Glebe Road, used to have a Stevenson screen in the 1960s, we recall, from which daily data was recorded.
There may also have been one close to the biology classroom at Brigg Grammar School in the 1970s.
Lastly, just a reminder to Brigg households that North Lincolnshire Council will NOT be collecting brown (garden waste) bins tomorrow (Tuesday) but WILL be emptying burgundy bins containing plastic and cardboard items for recycling. Due to the "extreme heat" the council wants to ensure its workers are not on duty in the afternoon when peak temperatures are experienced.
